March 1, 2010 REMINDER ! MARCH 1ST MEETING
The Board of Harness Racing BC is looking for your ideas for improvements to Breeders Stakes and Programs.
There will therefore be a meeting held at 7:00 PM on March 1st, 2010 in the Backstretch restaurant.
Falling foal numbers and numbers of starters in some of the Stakes programs in recent seasons demonstrate that current Stakes and Bonus Programs are, clearly, not giving people enough incentive to breed more Standardbred foals.
What we need are MORE QUALITY FOALS ON THE GROUND!
The Board members, consisting of members from both the BCSBS and BCSA, wants to find a way to reward Stallion Owners and Broodmare Owners for producing quality foals, to host Stake races that will have full fields, and to create programs offering potential owners real incentive to buy yearlings… They want your ideas on how to promote Standardbred breeding in B.C.
What we need are MORE QUALITY BC BRED RACEHORSES!
Each year the industry has an amount of money that can be used to promote breeding and provide incentives for both Breeders to breed and Owners to buy yearlings and each year the Committee receives many suggestions for improvement as well as complaints about current programs…..Changes for the better are needed but what are they?
Should we create a performance reward to benefit BC mares and stallions whose offspring do well?
Should we combine some stakes to increase purses or should we try to hold more stake races with smaller purses spread over more chances?
Should we reward a “Top Ten” in each gender or overall with bonuses?
Should we replace some stake races with performance bonuses to make the timing of preparations less critical?
How do we give more opportunities to more people without taking away from the prestige and financial rewards of our Stakes?
There are lots of questions and perhaps even more answers!
All members of Harness Racing BC are welcome and encouraged to come along to give the Committee your ideas and to consider those ideas that are put forward……
